Shore Book Signing a Big Success
The SHHS had the pleasure of being on hand at the Barnes and Noble store in Holyoke on Saturday October 16th. The occasion was the release of a new biography, "Eddie Shore and that Old Time Hockey" by author C. Michael Hiam. Mr. Hiam was on hand to speak about the book as was Eddie "Ted" Shore, Jr. who also spoke about the book as well as telling some stories about his father.

In addition to the release of the book, copies were signed by Mr. Hiam and Mr. Shore. As an added bonus, Mr. Shore brought along a signature stamp of his father's and gladly affixed the senior Shore's name to the book!
Lou Bordeaux of the SHHS spoke briefly about the origin of the SHHS and what the Society is and how it will continue to evolve. Further, the connection was drawn that without the struggles that Shore faced when he first bought the Springfield Indians, it's likely that there would not have been the tremendous history of hockey that we have enjoyed here in Springfield.
Regarding Mr. Hiam's book, this was a project that originally started as a book about Bruins great Bobby Orr. During his research for the book, Michael discovered that most Bobby Orr stories were already well known and well documented. Many of the stories led back to Eddie Shore however. Continuing to research led to him finding many items that led to the Orr project coming to a stop and then changing to a biography of Shore.

This book is a must have item for anybody who is not just a historian of the game, but also for those who want a glimpse inside an intensely hard working man whose roots on a farm in rural Alberta led him to become one of hockey's most enduring legends.
The SHHS would like to announce our first member's premium giveaway winners. The Society obtained three copies of the Shore biography, signed by the author C. Michael Hiam. The winners of the books are: Bruce Cline, Andre Mayer and Sam Majgier. Congratulations!
